Guy Cools: ‘International Co-production and Touring’ article
After having trained as a dramaturge, Guy Cools became involved with the new developments in dance in Flanders from the 1980's, initially as a dance critic and from 1990 onwards as theatre and dance director of Arts Centre Vooruit in Ghent, Belgium. In that capacity he was responsible for a large number of co-productions and collaborations with a variety of international dance companies. As vice-president of the Dance Council he contributed to the cultural policy towards dance of the Flemish Community. He curated dance events in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Venice and Montréal. He is still working as an artistic consultant for a.o. Place des Arts, Montréal and Julidans, Amsterdam. He left Vooruit to dedicate himself fulltime to production dramaturgy with a.o. Koen Augustijnen (Les Ballets C de la B) and Sara Wookey, and to return to his old passions of teaching, writing, giving workshops, lecturing and publishing in Belgium, Canada, Great Britain, Germany and Greece. He is a Research Fellow at the University of Ghent.

Mary Ann DeVlieg has been working in the cultural sector for 30 years, holding various posts in the USA and Europe. The majority of her work has been in the performing arts (creation, production, diffusion) in an international context, with special emphasis also on policy, multicultural practices and professional training. She is currently the Secretary General of IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting - since 1994) and is a founder and the Treasurer of the Roberto Cimetta Fund for Mobility of Mediterranean Artists and Operators. She is on the Executive Committee of the European Forum of the Arts and Heritage (EFAH), and on several Advisory Committees including those of Fondazione Fitzcarraldo (Torino) and FEMEC (Forum of Euro-Mediterranean Cultures). She has an M.A. in European Cultural Policy and Mangement from the University of Warwick, GB.
Oana Radu: Research on Central and Eastern European links and contacts
As programs director of the ECUMEST Association in Bucharest, Oana Radu is in charge of development and coordination of the implementation of all of the association's activities. She is the regional coordinator for South East Europe of the Policies for Culture programme, jointly developed by ECUMEST and the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam. She is initiator of the ARCult programme aiming to provide to the Romanian cultural sector specialized assistance (information, action research, consultancy) in the field of cultural policies and legislation. She holds an MA in cultural management from the Dijon Business School, France.
Judith Staines: General Editor;

Judith Staines is an independent arts consultant with over 20 years experience in the cultural sector. Currently based in England, she undertakes research, writing and project management for a variety of organisations. She has worked with many European cultural networks including EFAH (European Forum for Arts and Heritage), European Artists’ Pépinières, RESEO and ACCR (European Network of Cultural Centres / Historic Monuments). In 2003 she worked for Visiting Arts as Editor for Culturebase (www.culturebase.net), a Culture 2000 project promoting international artists. In 2002 she researched arts connections in India for the Arts Council of England’s International Fellowship Programme. She is the author of ‘Working Groups’, an influential 1996 study by EFAH into the scope and impact of European cultural networks, and has written several handbooks for visual artists.
Corina Suteu: Training sessions
Corina Suteu is Head of Cultural Programmes at the Institute of Technology and Human Development in Nantes (France) and former director of the Masters Degree in European Cultural Management of the Dijon Business School. She has been involved in many international activities as a cultural mediator, networker, trainer and external expert (for instance for the Council of Europe, Unesco, EU, European Cultural Foundation, Boekman Foundation, SOROS). She has worked closely with the British Council, AfAA and the Goethe Institut and initiated the first regional (Central European) MA in cultural management, the ECUMEST programme. She is president of the ECUMEST Association (www.ecumest.ro), and was president of the Forum of European Cultural Networks as well as member of the Executive Committees of IETM and ENCATC.
Lidia Dimitrova Varbanova: Research on links and contacts in Caucasus and Central Asia
Lidia Varbanova is an international consultant on cultural policy and management in Montreal, Canada. She was Program Director of the Arts and Culture Network of the Open Society Institute in Hungary, and before that Professor and Head of the Department of Social and Cultural Management, University of Economics, Sofia. She has a considerable teaching, consulting and research experience in the countries from Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Mongolia. She has received several major awards and fellowships, among them a Fulbright fellowship, a Fellowship Grant by the Japan Foundation; a Project Grant by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and a scholarship by the Webb Memorial Trust, Oxford.
Katelijn Verstraete: Training and mentorship
Katelijn Verstraete is IETM's Communication, Information and Training Officer and also responsible for Asia projects. She holds an MA in sinology and a postgraduate degree in marketing. Between 1996 and 2003 she worked in the commercial sector in China, while being active in the contemporary art scene there. She co-founded, and co-managed from 1999 till 2003, an independent arts space in Shanghai called BizArt. After her return to Europe, before joining IETM she worked with the KunstenFestivalDesArts in Brussels as a press and public relations officer.
Rosa Videira: ‘Authors' and performers' rights’ article
Rosa Videira is a lawyer and law consultant and currently main juridical consultant for the Ministry of Culture in Portugal. She has been responsible for the legal matters of major cultural events like Lisboa Capital Cultural, FIT Festival Internacional de Teatro, Europalia91 Portugal, Expo92 Sevilla, Expo98 Lisbon. She is a law consultant for contracts and copyright matters for cultural institutions in Portugal such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Centro Cultural de Belém, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Teatro Nacional D.Maria in Lisbon, Teatro Nacional S.João in Porto. She developed training courses on copyright and legal aspects of the arts for several cultural management post-graduation courses in Portugal.
Hanneloes Weeda: News and Share pages Editor (2003)
Hanneloes Weeda is currently employed as senior programme officer at the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam where she manages two programmes on cultural policy and management. Before she worked as a project manager for the East-West Parliamentary Practice Project and before that as marketing and sales consultant with Coopers and Lybrand Europe Management Consultants in Brussels, representing the firm to the European Commission. She holds a BA in Slavonic Languages and Literature from the University of Durham (U.K.) and an MA in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Amsterdam. She has worked and studied in many Eastern-European countries.
Edith M. Wolf Perez and Sophie Ehrlich: German language site research and translation
Edith Wolf Perez has been working in the performing arts for 30 years in different capacities. Currently she lives and works in Austria as a journalist specialised in dance and cultural policy and as a managing partner of the design and public relations agency W-Point. She is co-initiator and project manager of The Performance Bridge, a European project for the further education of performing artists www.theperformancebridge.net, and founder and editor-in-chief of the online magazinewww.tanz.at. She holds a B.A. from the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance in London and an M.A. in European Cultural Policy from University of Warwick.
Sophie Ehrlich is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Social/Cultural Anthropology from the University of Vienna and works as an assistant for the www.tanz.at web site.
