Akiyoshidai International Art Village residence program trans_2006-2007 invites young and un-established artists [no limitations on disciplines and specific age] to apply for a 70 day residency Jan-Mar 2007 in Yamaguchi, Japan.

"trans" is a prefix which means go beyond,get across,cross,change and convert. The Residence Program creates a place for the artists' new encounters and experiments for their future activities. The artists will acquire new ideas through their encounter with the culture and the people of the area where they stay. And they in turn will give new views and ideas to the local citizens. After the residence program,the artists will convey their experience based on the vernacular life style and its typical geographic conditions to the place where they will visit in the world. We hope the residency program,the at the Akiyoshidai International Art Village will provide the field where they can go beyond the borders of their cultures,exchange their thoughts and communicate with each other.

"trans_2006_2007 Residency Support Program" is carried out with the aim of supporting young artist's experimental artistic activities,without having a border of disciplines of art and nationalities. Residents will be strictly by he Selection Committee of the Residence Program of Akiyoshidai International Art Village. During the residency period,artists will create works and its ideas in collaboration with the curators of AIAV.

We are strongly hope that resident artists will actively tackle many kinds of project, because the trans_ is the project oriented artists-in-residence program from the beginning. For instance,we will offer the workshops,lectures,school visiting and exhibition and so on. Resident artists will select them or make proposal to realize such projects.

Residency period: January 10 - March 20 2007 [70 days]

Acceptable applicants:
Young and un-established artists [no limitations on disciplines and specific age]

Conditions for application:
Artists who are able to stay in the art village for the designated period of time.
Artists who are willing to cooperate our project such as lectures, workshop, school visiting and exhibition.
Artists who are able to speak English.
Artists who will cooperate with publicity of AIAV to cooperate to be taken documentation of the working processes.
Artists who are willing to cooperate the collaborative education program between the Art University in Yamaguchi.

Support:
Round trip transportation fee to the Akiyoshidai International Art Village (It will be calculated based on the standard set by the Art Village)
Accomodation in the village (Western/Japanese style *a part of the western style room has the mini kitchen)
Studio(There are various types of studios. The allocation of studio is decided by the Selection Committee)
Experiences of creative activities = 220,000 yen *it can vary according to financial situation of the institution
Per diem = 2,800 yen × day *it can vary according to financial situation of the institution
Accident insurance [This is for basic injury, so please prepare your own insurance for other coverage]

How to apply:
Applicants should make a photocopy of the downloaded application form or reproduce the same form and fill in the required details.
Attach your CV in English (typed detail profile) and enclose the items to explain your work (Cf. the application sheet). If you have an articles on your work, please attach them.
*Please understand that the items you submit will be kept in the village and cannot be returned.
*We will not accept the application via e-mail/telephone/FAX.

Deadline:
30th September, 2006
*Application forms recived after the deadline date will not be accepted.
*Application forms will also not be accepted if there is a misrepresentation or if required information is missing from the application form.

Result:
The middle of November, 2006
*The results will be given to all the applicants. 3 artists will be selected.

For the residence program,we offer following rooms to use.

Seminar room 1 94 sq.m. It has cushioned floor for dancers
Seminar room 3 94 sq.m. 7m high ceiling,bigger studio space
Studio 1 49 sq.m. studio for visual artists
*Each studios assigned along with the decision of selection committee.

Akiyoshidai International Art Village Information

Main Building: concert hall, amphitheater, outdoor stage, 3 seminar rooms(one is for dance rehearsals), 7 studios, gallery
Accomodation Building: rooms for stay, darkroom, salon, common kitchen, restaurant
Equipment: stage equipment, sound equipment, musical instruments (piano, percussion), darkroom equipment, digital video camera, video cassette recorder, easels, electric drill, chainsaw, discgrinder, stand for metalwork and woodwork, vice
*Further information of the facilities are provided on the web.
*Transportation during the residence period: rental car, bicycles or public transport (buses and trains). Gasoline and transportation costs are born by residents.
*There is a restaurant at AIAV,and common kitchen is provided for personal cooking.
