It is beyond any doubt that for the full integration of the EU, for its security understood in its various facets, and for the stabilisation of its position in the world, the entire Eastern policy of the European Union constitutes one of the key issues. There are numerous points of view which render the issue difficult and clearly, the understanding of these difficulties in their full dimension, taking into consideration the entire burden of historical conditioning and current differences of interests, memories, and visions of the future constitute a conditio sine qua non for a serious Eastern policy.
