Since April 2008, Europe & Cies organizes artistic meetings gathering teams from the whole european continent which work in the field of performing arts.

The project of Europe & Cies, born from the meeting of european artists from different countries, bears witness to a strong desire to create a dialogue and a concrete reflection on the future of European citizenship, in particular through the question of languages and dialogue between cultures.

Since April 2008, Europe & Cies organizes artistic meetings gathering teams from the whole european continent which work in the field of performing arts. These meetings take place in Lyon and Rhône-Alpes region, and they are set up in partnership with local authorities, cultural structures, associations, artits and citizens.

From the 14th to the 30th of May 2010, the 3rd Meetings of Europe & Cies will take place in Lyon and Rhône-Alpes Region. Artistic teams from Europe, working in the field of performing arts (theatre, music, dance, circus, etc.), are invited to present their creations, take part to meetings between artists and citizens, between europeans gathered to set up the question of european citizenship in a sensitive and poetic way.

Europe & Cies meetings will also grant an important place to regional artistic teams.
Apart from the shows themselves, during these Meetings, Europe & Cies will propose readings in the original languages of the participating teams, workshops, round-tables, conferences, meetings around different themes, thus partaking of a reflexion on the Europe to become and its widening to other civilizations.

Europe & Cies objectives

Europe & Cies’s first aim is to constitute a platform gathering European artistic teams whishing to think about the future of European City and the question of european citizenship in a concrete and sensitive way. This reflection is embodied in the artistic creations we propose, cooperations and partnerships revealing a serene and fraternal face of Europe. We consider reaching these objectives through several action modes:

- To initiate regular Meetings between artistic teams from Europe so as to arouse the sharing of artistic experiences, the exchange of practices and points of view: this invitation is addressed to artistic teams working on performing arts (theatre, dance, circus...) with the idea of a shared vision of Europe as a space for expression and a “playground” for the actors - creators of languages.

- To propose the creation of tools that will facilitate the artistic dialogue between teams from different european regions, in order to arouse partnerships and artistic cooperation projects.

- To arouse projects based on the fusion of arts and languages, against the separation between practices, and on a genuine dialogue between cultures. To encourage the mobility of teams and projects in Europe, as well as the circulation of art works – especially the contemporary european theatre writings ...In a fraternal Europe !

- To enable the meeting of european artists with audiences from different linguistic communities.

- To make the citizens - members of the audience - feel closer to those work processes integrating cultural diversity: residences, writing, translation, publishing... To propose to European citizens to hear and invest those stories – that are weaving our present - in order to think in a sensitive and federative way about our european citizenship.
