Bi-annual International Festival of Contemporary Theatre HOMO NOVUS will be held for the 6th time in September 2005. Since the first festival in Daugavpils in 1995 it has become one of the most important and innovative performing arts festivals in the region.

HOMO NOVUS 2005 introduces companies and individual artists, who throughout their lives and artistic activities continuously develop their own philosophy, new directions and methods. The creative laboratories, meetings and talks are an essential part of the program. The artists and companies are invited to stay for a longer period to create possibilities for a profound artistic exchange and communication.

HOMO NOVUS will open with the Latvian premiere of “The Ice. A Collective Reading of the Book with the Help of Imagination in Riga” by Latvian director Alvis Hermanis. It is the third part in the series of the Readings (Frankfurt, Gladbeck, Riga). The experimental project PROVE will introduce the younger generation of Latvian theatre directors, choreographers and media artists. There will also be a possibility to see some latest productions of Latvian repertory theatres.

During the festival two important international meetings will take place: “Theatre FESTIVALS IN TRANSITION” (international initiative of 8 theatre festivals) and the General Assembly of the Association THEOREM.

The program and the registration form are attached for the International Festival of Contemporary Theatre HOMO NOVUS 2005, which will take place in September 15-25 in Riga.
