Le Musée départemental de la Céramique à Lezoux: Ceramic Artist Residency 2025 (France)

The Ceramic Museum of Lezoux is inviting applications from French and international ceramic artists for their three-month residency programme, to be held between January and April 2025.

The Museum, open since March 2007, is a Museum of France installed in a former pottery factory built in the second half of the 19th century. The site has seen hundreds of potters working in several dozen workshops. Lezoux ceramics were exported long distances and acquired great fame in the Roman Empire.

The objective of the residency is to provide the means of creation to an artist offering an original approach to ceramics, anchored in the challenges of current creation. Apart from the time devoted to creation, meeting times with the public will be organised. These interventions will occupy approximately 15% of the working time available during the residency. Cultural activities will also be developed with the artist to raise public awareness of contemporary art.

The artist must have the technical knowledge necessary to use the equipment. An exhibition organised by the museum will present the artist’s work at the end of the residency. This exhibition will be scheduled for fall 2025, for a duration of two to three months. The Museum hopes that the work of the artist in residence will be promoted through the publication of a catalogue; a grant may be awarded to the artist to finance this edition.

Any visual artist residing in France or abroad, engaged in a professional creative process, can apply. The artist must be able to communicate in French.

The residency provides a stipend (2,000 EUR per month) and consumables (clay, enamels, etc., as well as certain small materials necessary for the creation of the works) will be reimbursed to a maximum amount of 1,500 EUR (including tax). A grant of a maximum amount of 3,000 EUR (including tax) may be paid for the development of a catalogue. Travel by the artist not relating to mediation actions or the holding of the exhibition (assembly, opening) will not be covered.
