Goethe-Institut / St+art: Call for German and Indian Mural Artists (India)

Illustration of a traveller with a backpack, cresting a hill and looking into the distance. We also see an open notebook with some doodles. An evocation of a travelling comic artist.

Goethe-Institut has been working with artists from across the globe to create a digital platform dedicated to comics, focusing on the subject of travel since 2019.

Taking this journey to another dimension, Goethe-Institut and St+art are launching an open call to invite one German and one Indian artist to collaboratively work on two murals – one in Chennai and one in Delhi, India.

The selected artists will be encouraged to work on thought-provoking ideas about the meaning of travelling from a broad perspective. Spiritual, time, space travel, post-pandemic travel… How can an inward or outward journey become an image for storytelling on the large canvas of a wall? From the southern city of Chennai to the northern capital city of New Delhi and through this cross-cultural collaboration, how does one create a journey of coexistence in diversity and exploration beyond borders?

The organisers provide:

  • Accommodation, international, domestic, and local travel costs, and food, as well as possible expenses linked to the visa procedure.
  • The organisers will provide for each applicant’s Personal Accidental Insurance.
  • The organisers will cover costs related to tests for COVID-19.
  • The organisers will provide an artist fee.

Applicants must have an Indian or German nationality or have resided in India or Germany for at least 10 years. Project activities run from December 2021 to February 2022.
