Art Center NEW is calling for applications from artists based in Asia for their NEW AIR 2026, a two-month artist-in-residence programme in Koganecho, Yokohama, from 20 July to 20 September 2026.
NEW AIR is a residency programme set in the multilayered urban landscape of Yokohama. It provides opportunities for art activity, residency, and presentation to artists who are actively practicing within Asia. In many countries and regions across Asia, it is challenging for artists to secure sustained support for art making and opportunities to present their work internationally. In response to this context, the programme conducts an open call focused on artists working across Asia.
Selected artists will develop their work while engaging with the local context. Following the residency, artists will have an open studio before NEW PLATFORM, an art fair held at Art Center NEW in September, and present their work during the event as a satellite exhibition.
Artists based in Asia (excluding Japan) are able to apply. Nationality and place of birth are not restricted.
The programme provides accommodation, and artist studio, round-trip travel expenses (up to JPY 200,000), visa application fee support (up to JPY 10,000), daily allowance (JPY 5,000/day), and a production budget (up to JPY 150,000).
