Malta Biennale 2028 Artistic Director (Malta)

Fondazzjoni għall-Malta Biennale is seeking to recruit an Artistic Director for its third edition of Malta Biennale, to be held between March and May 2028. The Malta Biennale is spearheaded by Heritage Malta and aims to include considerable input and active participation from other local cultural entities.

The Malta Biennale is set in historical sites in Malta and Gozo selected by the Fondazzjoni għall-Malta Biennale and Heritage Malta as an integral part of the agency’s vision to make its museums and sites relevant to today’s society, to link the past with the contemporary through art and to address today’s issues by creating dialogue, engaging a wider public and facilitating cultural transformation.

The Artistic Director must be a cultural leader working in the field of contemporary art and will have overall responsibility for the artistic management of the biennale. The Artistic Director will lead with a distinctive artistic vision and will create the biennale’s main exhibition within agreed resources. Consistency and excellence will be required in all artistic, managerial and organisational aspects of the bienniale.

The artistic director works closely with the heads of the respective production and administration sections and reports to the President and the Executive Board of the Malta Biennale 2028.
