Ettijahat – Independent Culture was founded as a primary intermediary platform providing comprehensive production support and mobility opportunities to Syrian and artists from the SWANA region.
Since 2011, Ettijahat has been one of main artistic field builders in the Arab region, specialising in facilitating artistic mobility and sustainable production frameworks for cultural practitioners from Syria and the wider Mashreq region who have settled in European cultural landscapes. Their mission is to connect the Syrian cultural landscape with the creative ecosystems of the Mashreq and Europe through flexible individual and institutional support, strategic partnerships, knowledge production initiatives and collaborative networks. They provide targeted support to both individual artists and cultural organisations and focus on capacity-building programmes that empower Syrian and Mashreq cultural practitioners while fostering intercultural exchange between the Arab region and Europe. Their effort is dedicated to protecting artistic freedom, producing knowledge, ensuring the mobility of cultural practitioners from Syria and the Mashreq and supporting vibrant creative voices across borders through innovative residency programmes, institutional collaborations and knowledge exchange platforms that strengthen the independent cultural sector.
