UK-EU Arts Survey 2026

Title of the report on a coloured background.

Arts Infopoint UK conducted a survey to understand how artists and arts organisations in the UK and the EU are working with each other currently; the impact of the UK’s non-membership of EU funding programmes; changes to artist mobility; and other barriers or opportunities arising from the UK’s exit from the EU. The answers provided in the survey were analysed by 56 Degree Insight.

Respondents identified several practical barriers to UK–EU collaboration arising. The most common issues raised were:

  • Difficulties starting new EU collaborations
  • Increased costs & reduced income
  • Visas and work permits
  • Loss of access to Creative Europe
  • Increased administrative burden

Freelancers and smaller arts organisations report the greatest impacts, with less capacity to absorb additional costs and administrative complexity. Those organisations that maintain European collaboration do so through informal networks and existing partnerships formed before the UK left the EU.

There is strong demand for action and practical support in a number of key areas – most notably:

  • Support for marginalised artists
  • Touring logistics and mobility
  • Collaboration and networking opportunities
