Conference: The Power of Mutual Understanding. Why We Cooperate

Title of the event on a light background.

The history of the past 70 years shows that it is civil society actors who keep communication channels open in conflict situations, when the doors of governments have long been closed. This is also true of the International Theater Institute (ITI); for 70 years, the German section, with its international network, has repeatedly demonstrated how civic understanding works through the means of art and culture.

In line with ITI’s work over the past decades, the potential and power of international cooperation is at the heart of their anniversary celebrations. They want to create space for meetings and discussions and have invited artists and representatives from various fields and organisations to share their experiences of transnational, interreligious, or artistic work.

The evening of 27 November 2025 will be a festive occasion dedicated to civil society and institutional cooperation. ITI and their guests will look back and reflect on the insights, challenges, and perspectives gained from international partnerships.

The sessions on 28 November 2025 will focus on artistic collaborations. They will address cross-border mobility, community theatre as a means of collective resilience and resistance, and theatre as a means of conflict resolution. Table discussions with the curators of Theater der Welt 2026 will offer insight into the respective regional conditions and structures of theatre production, as well as into the collective curation of a theatre festival.

As part of the programme, on 28 November On the Move Director of Operations Yohann Floch and representatives of the Mobility Information Points in Germany, the UK, Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, and more will present a ‘Meet the Mobility Information Points’ Brunch.
