DOM Art Residence: Call for Artists 2024 (Spain)

Light text of the call on darker, coloured background.

DOM Art Residence is looking for artists to create a project on the topic of ‘What can we do to deserve aliens’ attention?’ during a one-month residency in October 2024 in Madrid, Spain.

In recent years, Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek has extensively explored the concept of the future and its current state. His approach is realistically pessimistic-humanity is moving fast towards various global catastrophes, whether ecological, nuclear, or of any other nature. Žižek believes that to alter the future, we must effectively work to change the past; we must act as if the catastrophe has already happened. The residency asks are we capable of changing our future? How can we change the past (most likely by altering our collective memory)?

The residency will coincide with a group exhibition featuring artwork by artists-in-residence. During the whole month, cultural and educational programmes open to the public will accompany artists’ studio work, including events dedicated to the residency theme with the participation of guests from artistic and academic backgrounds. Some activities will be committed to researching the local context and cultural landscape.

Residency covers transportation within the EU, accommodation, and production materials (the estimate is agreed upon individually).
