‘Magic Carpets’ is a Creative Europe platform uniting 17 European cultural organisations. It supports emerging artists through residencies and creates opportunities to collaborate with other artists and local communities, fostering socially engaged art practices.
They are now accepting applications for residencies taking place between May and November 2025.
Artists who are EU citizens, have the right to reside in the EU, or are from Creative Europe-eligible countries can apply. There are four host organisations.
NGO Kaunas Biennial (Lithuania):
- Theme: The power of kindness
- Location: Dainava, Kaunas (the residency encourages artists to engage with the community through various participatory approaches)
- Dates: Approximately one month between July and August 2025 with a final event in October 2025
- Support: Artist Fee (1,200 EUR), daily allowance (30 EUR per day spent in residency), production budget (~1,000 EUR per artist), travel and accommodation (if needed, there is a possibility to accommodate a family member), studio space
Lab852 d.o.o. za promidžbu (Croatia):
- Involving fishing communities
- Location: Hvar island – towns Jelsa, Hvar town, Stari Grad, Vrboska
- Dates: June 2025 with outcome presentation July – September (during JAB2025)
- Support: Travel - bus + ferry tickets, fee, accommodation, production fees
Novo Kulturno Naselje (Serbia):
- Theme: the balance between the private and the public
- Location: Novi Sad, Serbia
- Dates: one month in September 2025, as part of the ‘Dobro Došli na Naselje’ Festival
- Support: Fee (1,200 EUR), daily Allowance (25 EUR per day), accommodation, travel costs
OPENART, Örebro Kommun (Sweden):
- Theme: collective processes, democracy and/or sustainable change
- Location: Örebro, Sweden
- Dates: 1 – 30 September 2025 (possibility for artist to take part in installation of artwork in June 2026)
- Support: artist fee (2,255 EUR), production support budget (1,000 EUR), transport of artworks to and from the exhibition, travel and accommodation during residency and installation and opening of the exhibition 2026, costs related to the installation period, documentation (photo) after (or during) the exhibition 2026.
