Maison Ackerman/Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud: Artist Residency 2027 for Immersive Artistic Project (France)

Maison Ackerman and Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud are calling for applications for the 2027 artist residency to create an artwork in the Maison Ackerman cellars. The residency is from mid-January 2027 and the opening is in May-June 2027.

Each year, Maison Ackerman gives carte blanche to an artist, inviting them to create a work that resonates with its cellars. Carved into the limestone, long, narrow, and shaped by centuries of history, the cellars reveal a unique mineral landscape. For its 2027 edition, the Maison Ackerman wishes to host an immersive artistic project capable of transforming the space. This residency is rooted in the history of the Maison and, in particular, in the figure of Raymond de Luze. The aim is not to literally reconstruct Raymond de Luze’s career, but to use his history and that of the House as artistic material, to interpret them, extend them and make them resonate with a contemporary perspective.

Video, light, and sound will be particularly valued and can be used to explore the notion of movement and to shift the perception of the place.

The space consists of underground troglodytic galleries (approximately 500 meters of passage), in which there is a gallery over 50 meters long, with darkness conducive to plays of light, shadow, texture and sound. The project will also include the creation of an illustration that can be used on labels and/or boxes for Maison Ackerman.
