It is not uncommon for Swiss artists and cultural workers to be able to obtain a studio residency abroad, lasting several months. Conversely, and unfortunately, Switzerland and Zurich offer foreign artists only limited possibilities. The Zurich scene (visual arts, dance, theatre, music, film etc.) often roams abroad for the purposes of obtaining new impulses, entering into an exchange, finding stimulation, building networks etc.
On 1 July 2008, IG Rote Fabrik began an artists in residence project for foreign artists and cultural workers. The Rote Fabrik, within which the cultural center and the artists working in the studios stimulate each other, inspire each other and make use of networking opportunities, is particularly suitable for such a project and thus enables the establishment of a location in Zurich for local and international dialogue.
IG Rote Fabrik allocates a suitable work studio to foreign artists for a period of 3 months and provides infrastructure, support and an artistic environment. Applications are now open for the next residency slot, which will run from April-July 2022.
The artists in residence project is geared toward professional artists from abroad who exhibit high artistic and professional quality in the fields of visual arts, dance, theatre, music or film.
Funding is available for travel expenses, insurance, costs of board and accommodation, a small production budget and per diem.
