The arrival of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been sudden, disruptive and hard to understand. Among other fields, AI is transforming how music is created and distributed, dislocating income streams and making it hard for audiences to know what they are listening to. Live music would seem less open to this change but AI is playing a role even there.
AMPLIFY is an EU-funded research project looking at how new digital technologies can support musicians and enhance their live performances. The approach is to begin with people, asking what artists and audiences want and developing tools that meet those needs. AMPLIFY believes that human beings should be at the heart and in control of the technology they use.
As part of that work, AMPLIFY wants to understand how people in the music sector use and feel about AI – not only musicians, but producers, engineers and promoters. They invite everyone to answer some questions about their own experience of AI, and what they hope (or fear) it can do. The questionnaire is straightforward and should not take very long to complete, but it will be important in helping policy makers and technology providers understand the needs of the music world. This is a chance to be heard about a key issue affecting musicians.
The survey will be open from 15 May to 31 July 2026, and it can be completed it any time. All the replies are anonymous. The data analysis will be led by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) on behalf of the AMPLIFY consortium. The results will be published on the AMPLIFY website in October 2026, so the data will be available for everyone to use.
