The Mutant Art Festival is an event focusing on performance art, organised in Strasbourg since 2011 by INACT association. This multidisciplinary event will take place 30 April to 15 May 2026, with several evening and daytime events. The organisation now invites applications from artists from all disciplines (musicians, visual artists, actors, dancers, poets) who have projects related to performance and performativity and who can propose a project consistent with this year’s theme of ‘Fugology’.
The theme of this edition is Fugology, a term borrowed from the artist Erwan Souhmi, who developed a process-based work around this concept during the 2013 edition. Invoking Fugology, a highly topical neologism, means evoking both the alternatives needed in the face of climate change and the cognitive biases that prevent us from considering an increasingly obvious reality: the unliveability of our environment in the short term.
Applications can be in the areas of: real time, performance studies, sound art, video performance, poetry, re-enactment, improvisation, dance, culinary art, sound poetry, environment, document, cross-media, statement, urban intervention, augmented and virtual reality, virtual performances
The applications must be a maximum of 20 minutes in length or duration (in case the performance doesn’t need continuous attention from the audience) and include the technical specifications (including scenography, performance area perimeter, sound, necessary lighting arrangements).
The INACT association also invites artists to propose interventions and workshops suitable for any kind of audience who would like to practice performance art for the first time. This activity could lead to a performance or an exhibition during the festival. Workshops are paid 60 EUR per hour for a maximum of 6 hours, with 70 EUR budget for materials.
Terms of the festival:
- 250 EUR artist fee
- Travel expenses refunded
- Accommodation
- Catering during the day of the performance
- Video or photo recording of the artwork
